The wiki keeps getting mercilessly spammed and I don't have the time to research the fixes at this time so I'll suspend it until later this year. The aim of this section is to build a community of teachers and learners who all have something to contribute to the IB Computer Science Programmes. It does not intend to replace the IBO's Online Curriculum Centre but maybe to make a space where students can contribute on an equal footing with teachers. Hopefully we will provide:
I've got a bit on at the moment but will be working on the site over the next couple of months so if you can't find what you want, come back later or drop me a line. Cheers Richard Useful Links and ResourcesPlease add any resources you rcommend for teaching the IB Computer Science Programme and the Java constructs required for the dossier component of the course. BooksBooks on Java and General Computer Science can be listed here Java Programming BooksJava Methods AB, Data Structures , Maria & Gary Litvin, Skylight Publishing, ISBN 0-96548531-5 Continues on from the book Java Methods, An Intrduction to OOP, prepares students for AB-level, AP Computer Science Exam. Data Structures and Algorithms in Java , Goodrich & Tamassia, John Wiley, ISBN 0-471-19308-9 . A good introduction to Data Structures in Java for the teaching shelf, bit too much for students probably. General Programming BooksThe CRC Card Book , Belin & Simone, Addison-Wesley, ISBN 0-201-89535-8 , A good introduction to the topic, possibly a little dated by now. The Pragmatic Programmer , Hunt & Thomas, Addison-Wesley, ISBN 0-201-61622-X , A book really for the pro programmer but with some useful hints and tips and a good read for the teacher. General Computer Science BooksComputer Science, 2nd Edition , Jones Meyenn, IBID Press, Melbourne, Australia, ISBN 0-1876-5904-1 . Please note: This book covers the constructs required by JETS for the IB with illustrative examples but is NOT intended as a book for teaching/learning Java. Understanding Computer Science for Advanced Level , 4th Ediion, Bradley, Stanley Thornes, UK, ISBN 0-7487-4046-5 , A very comprehensive text but the 4th edition has nothing on Boolean Algenra and Karnaugh Maps hich were wll-covered in the 3rd. Excellent and up-to-date sections on hardware and software. Nice range of ecercises and activites. WebsitesThese are categorised as Java related, general interest and school sites. Some sites may be hard to classify or fall into more than one, never mind, readers will likely work it out for themselves (or edit this page to make it more sensible). Java relatedGeneral interest[ NIST ] Dictionary of algorithms and data structures, compiled by the National Institute of Statistics and Technology. [ Random ] How computers generate random numbers. School websites[ FIS ] Frankfurst International School, Dave Mulkey, viewed June 2007.
